The European Commission has adopted a new version of the “Statistical Classification of Economic Activities” known as the industry code standard “NACE”. The transition from NACE Rev. 2 to NACE Rev. 2.1 affects national classification systems derived from the NACE, such as the SBI (Netherlands), NACEBEL (Belgium), NAF (France) and NACELUX(LU).
By 2027, D&B will apply NACE rev. 2.1 to all entities worldwide. Meanwhile, European countries will adopt the new NACE version and apply changes to local industry codes according to their own schedule between Q2 of 2025 and 2027. The availability of NACE Rev. 2.1 and its local derivatives will depend on the implementation timelines set by both the local registries and D&B’s data processing teams. This will be a phased activity, with each country following its own timeline. Local registries are managing the adoption of the NACE 2.1 and in some cases have not published details around the implementation of the new standard.
To ease implementation with the new classification, D&B Direct+ will deliver both Rev. 2 and Rev. 2.1 after the local registry starts providing Rev 2.1. Both the NACE Rev. 2 and Rev 2.1. will remain. However, there might be some discrepancies in the way local registries update their local industry types. For example, some countries may deliver only the latest version of the local classification.
For Belgium and the Netherlands, the SBI 2025 and NACEBEL 2025 classifications will be introduced in September 2025 and will replace the 2008 versions. We depend on the delivery of local codes on the KVK and KBO in the Netherlands and Belgium respectively. As more information is provided this page will be updated.
Please refer to the table below for details on the transition. It provides the latest timelines of release and classification versions for each country. Although some details remain to be confirmed, this table will be updated as soon as additional information becomes available.
